During 2020 the Department of Health and Aged Care (the Department) implemented temporary arrangements to allow the delivery of some medication reviews via telehealth, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This temporary measure played a critical role in ensuring continuity of care for Australian Patients during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic and was introduced to ensure Medication management services under the Home Medicines Review (HMR), Residential Medication Management Review (RMMR) and MedsCheck/Diabetes MedsCheck Programs could continue being delivered despite mandatory isolation requirements and other COVID restrictions.

National COVID-19 Mandatory Isolation requirements ceased on 14 October 2022.

Following this development, the Department have reviewed the inclusion of this temporary measure and advised that the telehealth delivery of HMR, RMMR and MedsCheck/Diabetes MedsCheck services will cease from 31 December 2022.

From this date, all services under the HMR, RMMR and MedsCheck/Diabetes MedsCheck Programs must again be conducted face-to-face with the patient. Please note, the Department has advised that the PPA cannot accept any exceptional circumstance requests to conduct services via telehealth.
