We are very pleased to confirm the Australian Government’s commitment to the Take Home Naloxone (THN) Pilot, which commenced from 1 December 2019, by advising that the THN Pilot program has been extended until 30 June 2022. The pilot will continue to operate in NSW, SA and WA.

Naloxone will continue to be available for free and without a prescription in 2021-22 to people who may experience, or witness an opioid overdose in the three pilot states.

A key element of participating in the pilot is the collection of evaluation data, which is being used by the University of Queensland Institute for Social Science Research to evaluate the pilot and will contribute to decisions related to a national program rollout.

Please note, you are not required to collect evaluation data after 30 June 2021. You will still need to continue to submit supply claim data until 30 June 2022.

The process for ordering, supplying and claiming naloxone through the Pilot from now until 30 June 2022 remains the same.
